Watsonville--After 12 years, the man who brought growth, iPads and even his flashy dressing style to Monte Vista Christian School is leaving.

Headmaster Steve Sharp announced his retirement last week. He plans to remain through the middle of next year to help train his eventual replacement.

“In the 12 years of me being here, I haven't regretted really anything I have done,” Sharp said. “I always had our students in mind and somehow it just seemed to work out amazing.”

Sharp and his wife plan to move to Missouri, where they own a house. He says that he will go back to reffing college basketball and umpiring college baseball. He will also continue to play tennis, which he is often seen doing after school here with other administrators, teachers and sometimes students.

“I will miss a mentor with him leaving but most of all I will miss a friend, my tennis buddy,” Principal Steve Woods said. “He will be missed.”

Prospective replacements from Georgia, Florida, and Southern California have started applying as the ad has gone out nationwide. MVC administration is still in the process of searching for a candidate who can work with technology innovation, school advancement, and the willingness to explore new things.

“He is such a big part of our school, so involved, taking pictures, going to most, if not all, school events,” Dean of Students Edie Larson said. “He will be missed and I hope we find someone who is just as involved.”
